Canada and the United States are pleased to release the newest triennial Progress Report of the Parties, pursuant to the Great Lakes Water Quality Agreement (“the Agreement”).The 2025 Progress Report of the Parties documents the binational and domestic activities and accomplishments of Canada and the United States in implementing the Agreement over 2023 to 2025.
The Report documents the significant accomplishments achieved through the cooperation of many partners on both sides of the border. Some highlights of the accomplishments reported include: exceeding remediation and habitat restoration goals in the Great Lakes Areas of Concern and improving water quality, beaches, and fish and wildlife; implementing actions to reduce municipal and agricultural sources of nutrients to Lake Erie, which is showing some progress but sustained effort and monitoring are still needed; and collaborating on early detection and control of invasive species, such as invasive carp.
Under the Agreement, there is an opportunity provide public feedback to the International Joint Commission on the Progress Report of the Parties, as part of the Great Lakes Public Forum.
