(Webinar) Understanding Nuisance Algae in Lake Erie’s Eastern Basin

Posted: August 19, 2025

You may have heard about the algae growth in Lake Erie, but did you know different parts of the lake are affected in different ways? Join us on September 23, 2025, at 11 a.m. CT (12 p.m. ET), to learn what’s happening in the eastern basin during a one-hour public webinar, Understanding Nuisance Algae in Lake Erie’s Eastern Basin, hosted by the Lake Erie Partnership as part of our Let’s Talk Lake Erie! webinar series.

We’ll start with a brief overview on algal blooms in Lake Erie, including their sources and impacts. Next we’ll hear how New York State is mapping and reporting nuisance and harmful algal blooms. Finally, we’ll learn about a pilot project in Ontario that uses a community-driven assessment tool to monitor shoreline algae.

Guest speakers include Rob Hyde (Canada Water Agency); Leanna Pierson and Ryan Elliot (New York State Department of Environmental Conservation); and Greg Ford (Swim Drink Fish).

This webinar is free, open to the public and suitable for anyone who is passionate about the Great Lakes!
