Committee Charge:

The Sources and Loadings Subcommittee is charged with the task of identifying sources of pollutants identified through the beneficial use impairment assessment process as "critical pollutants" by the Lake Erie LaMP. The Subcommittee continues to describe the status and trends in concentrations of pollutants, to identify major pollutant sources in the basin, and provide an information base upon which to support sound management decisions for reducing, removing and eliminating these pollutants from the Lake Erie system. The Subcommittee also works to identify information gaps, and recommend the information required to fill those gaps.

Committee Focus:

The Sources and Loadings Subcommittee is integrating available information from many jurisdictions in both the United States and Canada about the Great Lakes pollutants of concern, and especially the Lake Erie critical pollutants. Ambient environmental information, including sediment quality data, tissue residue levels in aquatic biota and other information sources, are compiled together with information about potential contaminant sources such as municipal and industrial discharge data. The information is being compiled into the Lake Erie Information Management System (LIMS). The integration of information is facilitating management discussions on possible sources of these pollutants in the Lake Erie basin.
